In addition, they come in red or mahogany but they are not too famous because they are not acceptable to join shows and competitions. The adult males have a height of 56-61cm.

AMERICAN TYPE

The American type are leaner and much less muscular compared to the other types. Their coat colours are also darker and they come in shades of gold. Males are 58-61cm in height, while females are 55-57cm in height. Many breeders of the American type golden retrievers sometimes import their dogs from Britain to take advantage of the temperament and appearance of the British type.

CANADIAN TYPE

This type of golden retrievers have thinner and darker fur. They are also slightly taller than the other types and it looks more like the American type than the British type. The males are 59-62 in height and the females are about 56cm in height.

TEMPERAMENT

Golden retrievers are known to be one of the gentlest and friendliest dogs. Because of this, they make great pets for families with children, but many people claim that they make poor guard dogs since they are too friendly to strangers. All golden retrievers are naturally intelligent, confident, and patient dogs and are always eager to please their owners. Furthermore, these dogs love to swim and they love to learn. Golden retrievers learn very quickly and can be trained to be guide dogs, mobility assistance dogs, and search and rescue dogs.
